Six Nigerians Arrested in Thailand Over Alleged Romance Scam Network

Thai authorities have arrested six Nigerian nationals over an alleged romance scam operation uncovered during a raid on a luxury condominium in Nonthaburi province, Thailand.

According to Thai media reports, the operation, codenamed “Dark Room Crackdown,” was carried out after investigators traced suspicious financial activities linked to an online fraud network.

Police said the suspects allegedly used fake online identities, AI-generated profile photos, and deceptive chats to lure victims into emotional relationships before convincing them to send money.

The six men, identified as Dennis, Ejikeme, Ibekwe, Okorom, Nwosu, and Obielu, were arrested during the raid conducted at a riverside condominium near the Phra Nang Klao Bridge area.

Authorities reportedly recovered several items from the apartment, including mobile phones, laptops, bank books, and materials believed to be connected to online scam operations. Investigators said some of the devices contained alleged scam scripts and digitally generated profile images used to target victims online.

Thai police also disclosed that five of the suspects had overstayed their visas, with some allegedly remaining in the country illegally for several years.

The suspects were initially charged with visa-related offences and alleged involvement in a secret criminal group, while authorities said further investigations into possible romance scam activities are ongoing.
